Hermanus and Peninsula Coastline
This beautiful town just two hours away from Cape Town is one of the finest holiday and fishing resorts in the world. Hermanus Pieterse, from the Netherlands, found grazing for his sheep here during the summer months and returned to a water spring and rocky shore every summer.
Other farmers of the Caledon area followed him and soon the area was called Hermanus Pietersfontein. Today Hermanus has a reputation as an angler’s paradise and many record catches have been made here. It is also known as South Africa’s hub for Perlemoen.
South Africa, including Hermanus, provides some of the easiest and best views in the world for whale-watching .The most common visitors to this area is the Southern-right whales who have their babies from June to November in our waters. The Whale festival is held during September and October each year which is also our spring months. Enroute to Hermanus you could stop at the beautiful Harold Porter gardens and enjoy the fynbos in full bloom along the way.
Whales can be viewed along the coastal line of the Atlantic Ocean, along the Indian Ocean near Simonstown, Fishhoek, Kalkbay and surrounding areas.
